A woman in her 30s is fighting for her life in hospital after being hit by a bus near the Greenwich IKEA store in the early hours of Monday morning.
Emergency response at the scene
The collision occurred at approximately 12:15am on November 17 on Peartree Lane, close to the entrance of the popular furniture store. Emergency services including police, paramedics and London's Air Ambulance were dispatched to the location within minutes of the incident being reported.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called at 00:17 hours following reports of a collision between a bus and a pedestrian. The woman received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to a major trauma centre under priority conditions.
Major road closure and transport disruption
Peartree Way has been completely shut to traffic from Horn Lane to Bugsby's Way to allow for thorough accident investigation work. Authorities have not indicated how long this closure will remain in place, causing significant disruption to the area.
Transport for London has confirmed that three bus routes - the 180, 472 and 486 - are currently on diversion due to the incident. Services are not stopping between Millennium Leisure Park East and Millennium Village/Oval Square in both directions.
Appeal for witnesses
Police are actively conducting enquiries and have made a public appeal for witnesses to come forward. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident at this stage.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: "A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where she remains in a life-threatening condition."
The London Ambulance Service detailed their extensive response: "We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a trauma team from London's Air Ambulance in a car."
