Major M4 Closure Following Serious Collision
A significant incident on the M4 motorway has led to a full overnight closure for emergency resurfacing work. The collision, which involved an oil spillage, occurred on Tuesday evening, resulting in one person being rushed to hospital.
Details of the Incident and Emergency Response
The crash happened on the M4 eastbound just after 8pm on Tuesday, November 18. Emergency services, including an ambulance, were quickly dispatched to the scene between junction 12 for Theale and junction 11 for Reading.
National Highways confirmed that a casualty was treated at the location before being transported to hospital by ambulance. The collision and a subsequent oil spillage initially led to the closure of three out of the four lanes on the motorway, causing severe delays for drivers.
Overnight Resurfacing and Travel Advice
Due to the extent of the oil spillage, a complete closure of the eastbound carriageway was scheduled to begin at 12am (midnight) to allow for critical resurfacing work.
Official diversions have been established to guide motorists around the closed section. National Highways had earlier reported delays of 45 minutes with approximately four miles of congestion building as a result of the initial lane closures. Drivers are strongly advised to plan alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys.
