An interactive map from Dose News has revealed the cheapest and most expensive places to play padel in London, as the sport continues to surge in popularity across the UK. With over 500 courts now operating nationwide, padel has become a go-to activity for both seasoned racket sport players and newcomers, endorsed by celebrities including David Beckham, Stormzy, Tom Holland, and Andy Murray.
Padel's rise since the pandemic
Padel, a blend of tennis and squash, originated in Spain in the 1990s but exploded globally after the Covid-19 pandemic, as its doubles format in enclosed courts allowed for no physical contact. Since 2019, the number of courts in Britain has skyrocketed from 40 to over 500, according to industry data. The sport is played on a court about a third the size of a tennis court, with solid, stringless paddles, and players can bounce shots off walls like in squash.
Cheapest courts in London
The map highlights Playtime Padel Clubs in Kingston, South West London, as the most affordable option, charging just £20 per hour for weekday and off-peak sessions. In North London, PDL United Bushey offers sessions from £26 per hour for non-members, while Dyrham Park Country Club's off-peak rates start at £30. West London players can find deals at Bloom Heathrow and Parkside Padel Club in Southall, both starting at £24 per hour.
South and South East London emerge as the cheapest regions overall. Sundridge Park Padel in Bromley, Coldharbour Leisure Centre in Greenwich, and Battersea Sports Centre Padel all offer off-peak sessions from £24 per hour.
Premium options
For those seeking luxury, Padium in Canary Wharf, branded as 'London's premier padel club', charges £80 per hour at both peak and off-peak times. The Padel Hub in Totteridge, North London, also demands £80 at peak hours, dropping to £70 off-peak. The map provides a comprehensive guide for players across the capital, allowing them to compare prices and locations easily.
