Southern passengers across Sutton and Croydon will face major changes on Sunday as engineering work closes two key sections of the railway. No trains will run between Balham and Sutton via Mitcham Junction, while the line between Purley and Caterham and Tattenham Corner will also close.
Engineering Work Closures on Sunday
According to the report, engineering work between Tulse Hill and Sutton will close all lines via Mitcham Junction on Sunday, September 27. No Southern trains will call at stations between Balham and Sutton via Mitcham Junction. Replacement buses will operate on some affected routes, while several Southern services will be diverted or cut back to different stations.
Replacement buses will run between Tulse Hill and Sutton, calling at Streatham Hill, Streatham, Streatham Common, Mitcham Junction, Hackbridge and Carshalton. Trains between London Victoria and Epsom and Dorking will be diverted and run non-stop between Balham and Sutton.
Service Diversions and Alternative Routes
Services which usually call at all stations between London Bridge and East Croydon via Peckham Rye will also be diverted after Tulse Hill. They will instead run via Crystal Palace and Norwood Junction, calling at both stations.
Engineering work will also take place between Purley and Caterham and Tattenham Corner, closing all lines. No trains will run between Purley and Caterham or Tattenham Corner. Trains which normally run between Reigate and London Victoria will only operate between Reigate and Redhill.
Passenger Advice and Replacement Services
Passengers travelling between Redhill and London can use alternative Southern or Thameslink trains at no extra cost. A reduced number of trains will run between London Bridge and Purley. Replacement buses will run between Purley and Tattenham Corner.
Paper tickets will also be accepted at no extra cost on London Bus routes 407, 434 and 439 between Purley and Caterham. Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling and allow extra time if they need to use replacement buses.
