Eindhoven Airport Shut Down After Multiple Drone Sightings
Eindhoven Airport closed after drone sightings

Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands has been forced to suspend all air traffic following the sighting of multiple unauthorised drones in its airspace.

Military and Police Response

Dutch Minister of Defence, Ruben Brekelmans, confirmed the closure in a post on social media platform X. He stated that defence counter-drone measures were 'ready to intervene' and that both the country's police and military are present at the scene.

An official investigation into the incident is currently ongoing. The airport, located in the south of the country, is a key hub used for both military and civilian flights, amplifying the security concerns.

Recent Similar Incidents

This is not an isolated event in the region. The Dutch defence ministry had previously reported that on Friday evening, the military used weapons against drones sighted above the Volkel air force base. This base is situated approximately 40 kilometres (25 miles) northeast of Eindhoven.

Furthermore, this incident echoes closures seen across Europe recently. In September of this year, various airports, including those in Denmark and Copenhagen, were also shut down due to similar drone sightings.

Authorities have not yet commented on the origin or the operators of the drones spotted above Eindhoven Airport. The situation remains fluid, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
