Asha Sharma has debuted a new boot up animation for Xbox consoles, continuing her efforts to revitalize the brand. Since taking over as head of Xbox in February, Sharma has quickly become the new face of the brand, not just through social media but through concrete actions. In just a few months, she announced the Project Helix console codename, ended the unpopular 'This is an Xbox' marketing campaign, reduced Game Pass prices, reconsidered Xbox's stance on exclusives, and canceled plans to integrate Copilot into Xbox.
Her latest reveal is the new boot up animation and sound for Xbox consoles, shared via X ahead of the official update. The animation is subtle, with the sound barely changed, but it now features the revamped Xbox logo introduced recently. This new startup sequence is expected to be used for Project Helix, the next-generation console anticipated to launch in 2027.
Despite earlier suggestions of a delay due to memory shortages, Sharma and the Xbox team are pushing forward with a brand revamp, aiming to release Project Helix sooner. The urgency is driven by declining Xbox Series X/S sales, with major titles like Forza Horizon 6 and the Halo: Combat Evolved remake launching on PlayStation 5, reducing incentives to buy an Xbox.
Fan Reactions to the New Boot Up Animation
Xbox fans have responded positively to the minor update. On the Xbox subreddit, users see it as evidence of Microsoft's efforts to reboot the brand. 'It feels like they are trying to reboot Xbox as a brand. Even to the point of changing the startup of an already existing console. Kinda cool,' commented Strict_Job6334. Pajamashark enthusiastically declared, 'The Sharmageddon continues!!' Others praised Sharma's leadership, with -Accident-Prone- adding, 'Also seen her called the Xboss. She's doing some good (albeit minor) things so far.'
Some fans remain cautious but optimistic. 'She's going for all the easy stuff and I don't blame her one bit. I don't mean that in a bad way. Gotta start somewhere!' said Greatsnes. Thor_2099 noted, 'There's only so much that can realistically change in a short amount of time but she is making changes. And all of those changes are fitting on the same theme and messaging of her stated goal when she took the job. That's pretty damn good.'
Challenges Ahead for Xbox
Despite positive sentiment, fan-pleasing moves may not translate to sales. The brand's focus remains unclear, with potential for Microsoft to double down on AI, given Sharma's team includes many from the CoreAI division. Returning to traditional exclusives is difficult now that key franchises like Halo and Gears of War are on PlayStation. However, there is hope for improved backwards compatibility for Project Helix. Xbox's vice president of next generation, Jason Ronald, recently promoted an unofficial fansite where users can vote on original Xbox and 360 games they want supported. The top three demanded games are Transformers: War For Cybertron, Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron, and The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
