Chelsea striker Emmanuel Emegha will not travel with the squad for the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia after picking up a hamstring injury in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bromley this week.
Injury in Second Pre-Season Game
The Netherlands international scored in the 3-0 victory over the League One side, having also found the net against Crawley Town on Saturday. However, the bright start to pre-season has been interrupted by a hamstring issue, and the player will remain in London for treatment.
According to BBC Sport, Emegha is expected to miss games on the Australian leg of the tour against Western Sydney Wanderers and Tottenham but could join the squad for high-profile matches in Asia against Juventus and AC Milan.
Xabi Alonso's 27-Man Squad
Head coach Xabi Alonso selected a 27-man squad for the trip, which kicks off in Sydney on Friday. Captain Reece James and new signing Morgan Rogers are not part of the group, as they are on holiday following England's semi-final run at the World Cup. Another new arrival, Geovany Quenda, who joined from Sporting CP, was also omitted from the pre-season squad for reasons currently unclear.
Chelsea confirmed in a statement: 'Several other first-team players are expected to join the Blues squad during the tour.'
Emegha's Injury History
Emegha was signed by Chelsea last year and spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Strasbourg, scoring eight goals in 18 appearances. However, the 23-year-old missed large portions of last season through injury. A hamstring problem ruled him out for nine games, while a muscle tear sidelined him for four months from December to April, causing him to miss 20 games in total. A dead leg then kept him out for the remaining four games of the season.
The club will hope Emegha can recover in time to join the squad for the latter part of the tour, as they face Juventus and AC Milan in Asia.
