France have emerged as the favourites to win the 2026 World Cup, with odds of 4/1 according to Betfair. The defending champions from 2018 and runners-up in 2022 have started their campaign in dominant form, winning 3-1 against Senegal and 3-0 against Iraq. Kylian Mbappe has scored four goals so far, leading an attack that includes Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise, and Desire Doue.
Spain and England among top contenders
Spain are second favourites at 5/1 despite a surprising 0-0 draw with Cape Verde in their opening match. They bounced back with a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia. Luis de la Fuente's side have not lost a game (excluding penalty shootout defeats) since 2023.
England, at 13/2, are third favourites. The Three Lions began their campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia, raising expectations. However, Thomas Tuchel's side face a challenging knockout path, potentially meeting Brazil or Argentina from the quarter-finals onwards. England have not won a World Cup since 1966, and this year marks the 60th anniversary of that triumph.
Argentina and Brazil also in the mix
Argentina, the defending champions, are also at 13/2. They have started strongly with wins over Algeria and Austria. Lionel Messi has scored five goals so far, overtaking Miroslav Klose as the all-time top scorer in World Cup history.
Brazil are at 12/1, having drawn 1-1 with Morocco and beaten Haiti 3-0. The Selecao have only reached the quarter-finals once since winning the trophy in 2002, and they are under pressure to improve on that record.
