A Strictly Come Dancing insider has firmly rejected what they describe as a 'spurious' rumor suggesting that Claudia Winkleman is 'killing off' the beloved BBC show. Last year, the 54-year-old presenter, alongside her co-host Tess Daly, 57, announced their departure from the program after decades of hosting. Since then, Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe have been widely tipped as the new hosts, though the BBC has yet to make an official announcement.
Rumors of Trouble Behind the Scenes
According to a source speaking to The Sun, the show is facing difficulties in booking top talent, with some blaming Winkleman's involvement in The Celebrity Traitors. The insider claimed: 'It is the greatest of ironies that while Claudia is Strictly’s biggest champion, even after her departure, she is actually killing off the show. Strictly bosses are struggling more than ever to book top talent since the success of the Celeb Traitors. The bigger stars would rather spend a week in a castle with Claudia and its high viewing ratings, than a potential three months stint in the ballroom and a chance they could be caught up in one of Strictly’s many scandals. It is all a bit of a nightmare and doesn’t bode well for the future of Strictly.'
Insider Response and Bafta Snub
However, a Strictly insider responded to Metro, dismissing the claims outright: 'This spurious claim is a load of old Glitterballs.' The denial comes after Strictly was notably absent from any Bafta categories at this year's ceremony. Meanwhile, Winkleman recently attended the Baftas after filming for the second season of The Celebrity Traitors. She was without her former co-host Tess Daly, who made headlines after announcing her divorce from Vernon Kay after nearly 23 years of marriage.
Speculation Over New Hosts
With the BBC yet to officially announce replacements for Tess and Claudia, speculation continues over who will take on the hosting duties. Fans have touted Mel Giedroyc as a frontrunner, while some stars, including former Radio 2 host Zoe Ball, have ruled themselves out. It Takes Two presenter Fleur East expressed disappointment at being overlooked for the role. Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
