The upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2026 is set to look significantly different, not only due to changes in hosting but also because of a major shake-up among the professional dancers. Several stars have confirmed their departures, while others are embroiled in rumors, creating what has been described as a professional dancer mass cull.
Confirmed Exits
The latest dancer to confirm their exit is Gorka Marquez, who announced on Instagram on April 28 that he is leaving the show after a decade. The official Strictly Instagram page expressed gratitude for his contributions, noting his passion, charisma, and exceptional choreography. Gorka himself stated that scheduling conflicts between Strictly and his judging role on Bailando con las Estrellas in Spain led to his decision to step down.
Luba Mushtuk also confirmed her departure in a heartfelt Instagram post in March. The 36-year-old dancer thanked the show for ten memorable years and expressed excitement for future projects, though she will still participate in the Strictly tour.
The most shocking exit is that of Karen Hauer, the show's longest-serving female professional at 43. In an emotional video, she expressed pride in her journey and promised to continue entertaining her fans.
Additionally, Michelle Tsiakkas, 30, will not join the 2026 Professionals' live tour, effectively confirming her axing. She was filmed leaving a dance class and responded to sympathizers with a resigned "It is what it is."
Nadiya Bychkova, 36, addressed her rumored exit with a statement on Instagram, describing her role in the Strictly ecosystem as "evolving." She emphasized her ongoing connection to the show and her excitement for new projects and more time with her daughter.
Rumored Departures
Rumors have swirled around several other professionals. Neil Jones, 43, and Nancy Xu, 34, are reportedly benched and will not receive celebrity partners for the upcoming series. Katya Jones, 36, was initially at risk but is now said to be signing a new contract for her 10th anniversary on the show. Meanwhile, Aljaž Škorjanec, 36, is expected to return for his 24th series, and Carlos Gu and Johannes Radebe have been assured their jobs are safe, according to reports.
Official Announcements Pending
Metro understands that the BBC will announce official plans for Strictly Come Dancing 2026 in due course. The official line-up is typically revealed in April, so clarity on the final cast is expected soon. The show returns to the BBC this autumn.
