Benjamin Sesko has voiced his disappointment over veteran midfielder Casemiro's impending departure from Manchester United at the end of the season. The 34-year-old Brazilian scored his fourth goal in six Premier League matches on Monday, helping United secure a narrow 2-1 home victory over Brentford.
Casemiro's Stellar Form
Casemiro has been one of United's most consistent performers this season, and his latest commanding display drew chants from Old Trafford fans urging him to extend his stay. However, the club opted not to trigger a one-year extension on his lucrative contract, and Casemiro announced earlier this season that he would leave this summer.
Teammate Sesko, who scored the winning goal against Brentford, lamented the decision. 'He's a working machine,' Sesko said. 'He's experienced and what he's putting on the pitch is unbelievable. You need someone like this. Unfortunately, he's leaving, but we are pleased that we can manage him until the last minute in the game and we're going to use him.'
Carrick Confirms Decision Is Final
Interim head coach Michael Carrick reiterated after the match that the decision not to extend Casemiro's contract is final. 'It's pretty clear – from both sides it's pretty clear the decision,' Carrick said. 'It's pretty clear, too, how much it means to him and probably the situation and the clarity of the decision has helped everything to be understandable for the supporters as well. Credit to him because he's given absolutely everything and had some big moments for us, so all round it's quite a nice direction for it to be taken.'
Sesko highlighted Casemiro's influence on the squad, stating, 'The way you look at him, it's very important, you know? It would be stupid if you didn't look at him and try to be like him when it comes to the work rate and stuff. I think everyone is pleased that he is here. Unfortunately, he leaves but it's important to keep him up like this until the end of the season.'
Sesko Backs Carrick for Full-Time Role
Sesko also joined a growing number of United teammates in endorsing Carrick to stay on as permanent manager. 'He's an amazing coach, I've said this many times,' Sesko added. 'He's brought different energy. Also the way we're doing in the training, it's unbelievable. Of course I would like to have him here.'
United have won nine of their 13 Premier League games under Carrick, and a victory against Liverpool on Sunday would guarantee them a spot in next season's Champions League.
