Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho has signed a contract with Italian Serie C club Ravenna at the age of 46, more than a decade after his last professional appearance. The announcement was made at a presentation in Miami, attended by Ravenna president Ignazio Cipriani of the Cipriani restaurant brand.
Ronaldinho's return to Italy
Ronaldinho last played professionally for Fluminense in 2015. This marks his second spell in Italy, having previously featured for AC Milan from 2008 to 2011. During his career, he won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 and the Ballon d'Or in 2005.
"I cannot wait to dance with the ball," Ronaldinho said. "Football has always been joyful for me, and I'm excited to bring that spirit to Ravenna. Let the magic begin!"
Club president's vision
Ravenna president Ignazio Cipriani expressed his enthusiasm for the signing. "[Ronaldinho] was my idol growing up," Cipriani said. "I hope his involvement inspires a new generation of supporters to fall in love with Ravenna."
The club, currently competing in Serie C, hopes Ronaldinho's presence will boost its profile and attract new fans. Details of the contract, including duration and financial terms, have not been disclosed.
