Portsmouth's Bid for Dundee Star Luke Graham Rejected as QPR & Sheffield United Circle
Portsmouth's Luke Graham bid rejected, QPR & Sheff Utd in race

Portsmouth's attempt to sign Dundee's highly-rated defender Luke Graham has hit an immediate obstacle, with the Scottish club rejecting an opening bid. The move intensifies the Championship transfer race for the 21-year-old, with Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield United also credited with strong interest.

Portsmouth's Opening Gambit Falls Short

According to reports, Portsmouth submitted a six-figure offer for the centre-back, which was swiftly turned down by Dundee. The club's manager, Steven Pressley, confirmed the bid had been received and rejected, indicating the Scottish Premiership side values the player much higher.

"I know there's been a bid. Rejected, I would imagine so," Pressley stated. He emphasised Graham's quality and the club's stance, adding, "if he was to go it would have to be a really high figure." It is believed Portsmouth are now preparing an improved offer to test Dundee's resolve.

QPR and Sheffield United Maintain Interest

While Pompey make the first concrete move, the transfer battle remains wide open. QPR have already invested in defence this month, spending £4.5 million to re-sign Ronnie Edwards from Southampton. However, their interest in Graham suggests they are still looking to bolster their options for the future.

Sheffield United are also monitoring the situation, alongside Scottish clubs Aberdeen and Hearts. Dundee are aware of the mounting attention and have reportedly opened talks with Graham over a new contract, though no breakthrough has been achieved yet.

Who is In-Demand Defender Luke Graham?

The Scotland under-21 international has become a key figure for Dundee this season, making 25 appearances across all competitions. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Pressley tipping him for a "big future."

The defender's development, which included a formative loan spell at Falkirk, has been praised by his manager. "The club has done a really wonderful job with Luke and his development," Pressley said in August, highlighting the player's "steely determination" and regular men's football from a young age.

With the January transfer window active, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether Graham remains at Dens Park or secures a high-profile move south to the English Championship.
