Nintendo sold over 8 million Pokémon games in 2026 as Pokopia proves a big hit. The company announced that Pokémon Pokopia, a Switch 2 exclusive, sold over four million units worldwide in just five weeks. Additionally, digital-only ports of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, released for the 30th anniversary, also exceeded four million sales. These figures highlight strong demand for the franchise, especially given the relatively small user base of the Switch 2.
Switch 2 Sales and Price Hike
Nintendo's Switch 2 console sales have surpassed 19.86 million units, an increase of 2.49 million from the last quarter. However, an impending price increase is expected to reduce console sales to 16.5 million in the next financial year. Despite this, Nintendo projects a 23.2% increase in software sales for the Switch 2.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Performance
Pokémon Legends: Z-A has sold 12.79 million copies since its launch in October. On the original Switch, it sold 8.85 million, while the Switch 2 Edition accounted for 3.94 million. Its predecessor, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, sold 14.83 million after a year, suggesting Z-A is on track to surpass it.
Other notable successes include Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream, which sold 3.8 million units in two weeks, and Mario Kart World, the best-selling Switch 2 game with 14.7 million units. Donkey Kong Bananza followed with 4.52 million sales.
Future Outlook
Nintendo has a strong lineup ahead, including Yoshi And The Mysterious Book, Star Fox, and Splatoon Raiders. While these may not reach Pokémon-level sales, a potential Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake for Christmas could boost numbers. However, Mario Tennis Fever and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond were not mentioned in the report, suggesting underperformance.
