The New Day has officially parted ways with WWE, marking the end of an era. Kofi Kingston, 44, and Xavier Woods, 39, have left the wrestling giant after 20 and 16 years, respectively, with the company. The duo had been a featured act on WWE Raw since 2014, spending 12 years as a team.
Mutual Consent Departure
According to Fightful Select and Bodyslam’s Cory Hays, the pair left by mutual consent. Additionally, MFT members Tonga Loa and JC Matteo are also set to leave as part of ongoing main roster releases. These departures follow a wave of post-WrestleMania cuts that included Kairi Sane, the entire Wyatt Sicks group, and many others.
Record-Breaking Tag Team
As The New Day, Kingston and Woods—along with Big E—won more WWE tag team titles than any duo in history, with 13 championships. Their seven SmackDown Tag Team Championship reigns are a WWE record, as is their 483-day stint as Raw Tag Team Champions. Kingston also became a former WWE Champion after defeating Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
In 2024, celebrating ten years of their partnership, Kingston reflected on the team’s journey in an interview with Metro.co.uk. 'It’s wild to see how far we’ve come, even from the people rejecting us,' he said. 'When you think about it, we came out and just told everyone to be the best version of themselves, that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. People booed us out of the building and told us that we suck! What is going on in this jaded world that we live in where you tell people to be the best that they can be, and they say, “Nah, we don’t want to hear that, man, you guys suck!”'
However, the duo quickly found their footing. 'We became so good at being bad guys that the people started loving us again,' Kingston laughed. 'It’s been a roller coaster of emotions for sure.'
