Danny Murphy Backs Arsenal to Win Double, Names Ben White Replacement
Murphy Backs Arsenal for Double, Names White Replacement

Former England midfielder Danny Murphy has backed Arsenal to end the season on a high by winning both the Champions League and the Premier League. Arsenal have never won Europe's top competition, with their only final appearance ending in defeat to Barcelona in 2006. Now, Mikel Arteta's side face Paris Saint-Germain, the holders, in the final.

PSG's Attacking Threat

PSG boast a formidable attack, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, and Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele in top form. The Ligue 1 champions have scored 44 goals in 16 Champions League matches this season, compared to Arsenal's 29. However, Arsenal are confident in their set-piece prowess, which has been a key strength throughout the campaign.

Ben White Injury Blow

A season-ending injury to Ben White has left Arteta with a dilemma at right-back. Jurrien Timber is also sidelined with a groin problem. Murphy commented on White's injury, saying, 'It's a shame for Ben White. He seemed to be in Thomas Tuchel's good books and had just started to regain his form.'

White's challenge on Crysencio Summerville at West Ham drew criticism from Gary Neville, who called it 'weak.' Murphy partially agreed, recalling his own experience: 'I missed a final once by dangling a leg. I should have gone in full tilt.' He added that modern rules sometimes encourage tentative tackles due to red card risks.

Murphy's Ideal Replacement

Murphy expects Cristhian Mosquera to start at right-back if Timber is unfit. Mosquera, primarily a centre-half, is quick and capable of playing full-back. Murphy admitted it's not ideal but not disastrous: 'He can sit in position and have a one-on-one battle. It's not the end of the world.'

Murphy's Bold Prediction

Despite praising PSG, Murphy predicts Arsenal will win a historic double. 'The great thing for Arsenal is that if they get the league title over the line, the Champions League is a free hit,' he said. 'They can enjoy it, and the pressure is off. For some reason, I think they'll win both. They'll nullify PSG and probably win on a set-play.'
