Arsenal star Martinelli told to leave if Arteta wins Premier League
Martinelli urged to leave if Arsenal win Premier League

Mikael Silvestre has suggested that Gabriel Martinelli may need to leave Arsenal if the club secures the Premier League title this season. The former Arsenal defender believes that a potential championship win could prompt changes in the squad, and Martinelli might be one of those affected.

Arsenal's Title Chase

Arsenal are on the verge of winning their first Premier League title since 2004. They need to win their final two matches against already-relegated Burnley and Crystal Palace to guarantee the trophy. Mikel Arteta could become the first Arsenal manager since Arsene Wenger to achieve this feat. Even if Arsenal slip up, Manchester City would likely need to beat in-form Bournemouth and Europa League finalists Aston Villa to snatch the title.

Regardless of the outcome, Arsenal plan to strengthen Arteta's squad this summer. Several fringe players could be moved on, and Silvestre thinks it might be 'good timing' for Martinelli to seek a new challenge.

Martinelli's Role Under Scrutiny

Martinelli is Arsenal's longest-serving current player, with nearly 300 appearances since his debut in 2019. However, most of his game time this season has come from the bench, starting only ten league games. Silvestre told Betpack: 'Gabriel Martinelli might be the one who wants to trigger a transfer because of the game-time. He's a Brazil international, he wants to play, and Leandro Trossard gets more game time than him.'

He added: 'Leaving after winning the league would be good timing for him, maybe a good decision, but he needs to find the right place, and then you need a replacement.'

Potential Replacement: Bradley Barcola

Arsenal have reportedly shown interest in PSG's Bradley Barcola to bolster their attacking options. Silvestre commented: 'If Martinelli was to make space, then Bradley Barcola could definitely be one that should compete with Trossard.' He noted that Barcola has areas to improve, particularly finishing, but praised his dribbling and creativity.

Arsenal face Burnley at the Emirates on Monday night. A win would put pressure on Manchester City, who play Bournemouth the following evening. The title race could go down to the final day of the season.
