Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Marcus Rashford will remain at the club for the upcoming season, ending speculation about a permanent departure. Rashford's Return and Manager's Stance
Speaking to ITV1 ahead of United's pre-season friendly against Leeds United in Dublin, Carrick stated, "He's our player, you know, and he's come back great. He's just like any other player." The manager, who played alongside Rashford for two years before retiring, emphasized the forward's importance: "I've known Marcus a long time and, you know, he gives us something a little bit different. And he's been in great spirits since he's been back."
Rashford joined Barcelona on loan last summer with a £26 million permanent option, but the Spanish club declined to trigger it, instead signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. Despite links with several Premier League clubs, no serious suitor emerged, leading United to retain the England international.
Pre-Season Preparations and Squad Updates
Rashford, along with Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez, was not included in the squad for Wednesday's clash at Croke Park, where United beat Leeds 1-1 on penalties. Carrick explained the trio were "not quite ready yet" but are expected to feature in the final warm-up game against AC Milan on Saturday.
The manager noted Rashford's seamless reintegration: "He's been back two or three days training and it's just pretty normal, to be honest. And we're looking forward to the start of the season."
