Manchester City have agreed a British record £130m fee with Nottingham Forest for midfielder Elliot Anderson, according to sources close to the deal. The transfer surpasses the previous record for a British club, set when Chelsea paid £115m for Enzo Fernández in 2023.
Details of the agreement
The fee, which could rise to £140m with add-ons, includes a significant upfront payment. Anderson, 22, has been a standout performer for Nottingham Forest since joining from Newcastle United in 2023. He scored 12 goals and provided 8 assists in 38 Premier League appearances last season.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has long admired Anderson's versatility and work rate. "Elliot is a player we have tracked for some time. His ability to play in multiple midfield roles fits our system perfectly," Guardiola said.
Impact on both clubs
For Nottingham Forest, the sale represents a massive profit on the £35m they paid Newcastle two years ago. The club plans to reinvest the funds into strengthening their squad. "This deal allows us to secure the long-term future of the club," said Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis in a statement.
Manchester City, meanwhile, secure one of the most promising young talents in English football. The signing is seen as a statement of intent as they aim to reclaim the Premier League title from Arsenal.
The transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days, pending a medical and personal terms. Anderson is set to sign a five-year contract worth £250,000 per week.
