The City of London Corporation has introduced new measures at Hampstead Heath's Parliament Hill Lido following a series of incidents last month. Visitors are urged to behave responsibly as additional security patrols are deployed this weekend.
Incidents Prompt Action
During the May Bank Holiday heatwave, fights broke out at the lido and crowds entered non-swimming ponds, disturbing wildlife. On May 25, two individuals were arrested after a fight involving a glass bottle, leaving one person hospitalized and a staff vehicle damaged. Another fight occurred on May 28 in the queue.
New Lido Rules
The Corporation has implemented strict measures: ID required for entry, no under-16s without a responsible adult, random bag searches, and additional security during hot weather.
Alderman Gregory Jones KC, chair of the Hampstead Heath committee, stated: "We've put extra security and patrols in place, particularly around the lido and Model Boating Pond. Fires and barbecues are prohibited. Please behave responsibly and respect the Heath."
The BBC forecasts temperatures reaching 34°C by Tuesday, prompting further vigilance.
