A new demand letter sent to TMZ claims to contain video footage of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC presenter Savannah Guthrie, on the day she allegedly died. Nancy was taken from her home earlier this year, and her whereabouts remain unknown, though kidnappers have alleged she has died.
Latest email claims video evidence
The anonymous sender states they know the identity of two kidnappers and possess a video of 'the main guy' with Nancy on what they describe as 'probably her last' day. The email also distances itself from a previous tip about a burial site in Mexico, which TMZ authenticated as from an earlier source. The sender writes: 'I have a phone stashed in a secure location guaranteeing both the information it stores and the safety of the phone. What it contains is my definition of delivering them on a silver platter, a short video of the main guy with Nancy the day that was probably her last, pictures of both involved, names and addresses and age.'
Demand for bitcoin
The sender is asking for one bitcoin in exchange for the phone's location and password. TMZ has forwarded the email to the FBI and responded with a video demanding a single screenshot of Nancy as proof. Days earlier, the outlet had offered to pay one bitcoin to authenticate the notes. The first ransom note demanded $4 million in bitcoin within days, later rising to $6 million. Another note offered an 'apology' for Nancy's death and proposed returning her body for $4 million, though it remains unauthenticated.
Savannah Guthrie's emotional plea
During a live broadcast on the Today show, Savannah Guthrie broke down in tears and pleaded for help. 'I wanted to just take the opportunity to ask people, really to beg people, to come forward. Somebody knows something,' she said. Nancy was taken from her home months ago; doorbell camera footage from February 1 at 1:47 a.m. shows a gloved, masked man approaching the house before the camera is disconnected. The rest of that morning remains a mystery.
