London Marathon 2027 Ballot Opens with Potential Two-Day Event
London Marathon 2027 Ballot Opens, Two-Day Event Possible

The London Marathon 2027 ballot is now open, offering runners a chance to secure a place in one of the world's most prestigious races. Applications opened at 9am on Friday, April 24, and will close at 4pm on May 1. Successful applicants will be notified by email by early July.

Potential Two-Day Expansion

Organizers are exploring the possibility of expanding the event to two days in 2027, which could allow approximately 100,000 participants to cross the finish line. This year's race saw a record 1.1 million applications. If approved, the new format would split the men's and women's elite races across the weekend, with all applicants automatically entered into both Saturday and Sunday ballots, significantly increasing their chances of gaining a place. Those who are not successful will receive a free hydration vest valued at over £100.

Mayoral Involvement and Fees

Mayor Sadiq Khan is expected to participate in discussions regarding the proposed changes. A spokesperson stated, "London is the sporting capital of the world and the Mayor looks forward to working with London Marathon partners to consider if it might be possible to host an event that will run across two days next year." The standard application fee is £79.99, with a reduced fee of £49.99 for second-round ballot entries. International runners will pay £225, which includes a carbon offset fee.
