Man shot dead in East Acton as murder probe launched

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 40-year-old man was shot dead in East Acton on Friday evening. The incident occurred at the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street, where multiple gunshots were heard by members of the public at approximately 7.47pm on October 2.

Emergency response and victim details

Met Police officers and London Ambulance Service paramedics attended the scene and treated the man, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has not yet been formally named, but his family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to confirm the cause of death, though the Met believes the man died from a gunshot wound. No arrests have been made at this early stage, and a crime scene remains in place on Braybrook Street.

Memorial gathering and witness appeal

On Saturday, a group of around 50 adults and children gathered for a memorial service for the victim. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, expressed his condolences and appealed for information.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of a man whose life was taken in a senseless act of violence,” Howie said. “We understand a large number of people had gathered for a memorial service, and what should have been a time to come together in remembrance has instead left a family devastated.”

Howie revealed that between 40 and 50 people, including children, were present when the incident occurred. He urged anyone in the area between 6pm and 8pm to come forward, particularly those who may have seen individuals carrying weapons, people on bicycles acting suspiciously, or vehicles being driven at speed.

How to provide information

Detectives are also seeking any photographs, video, dashcam, doorbell, or mobile phone footage, as well as anything relevant on social media. “However insignificant it may seem, the smallest piece of information could prove crucial in helping us establish what happened and identify those responsible,” Howie added.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police via 101, quoting CAD 7011/2Oct, or upload it to the police major incident portal. Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
