Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) has plunged to shocking new depths in her quest to wreck her sister Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) marriage, and according to Coronation Street Producer Kate Brooks, she is far from finished. Last week, Jodie's downfall seemed imminent after her elaborate revenge plans went up in smoke due to a rash decision. For months, Jodie had been quietly ingratiating herself at No.6 while getting closer to her sister's husband, David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), all to pay Shona back for leaving home when they were kids and abandoning Jodie to their toxic father.
Then Jodie discovered a letter she had sent to Shona as a little girl, a desperate attempt to reach out. Although Shona claimed she never received it, the fact that she kept it all these years proved she was lying and simply did not want to see her family. This revelation sent Jodie over the edge, leading her to put on her sister's lingerie, light romantic candles, and wait in David's bed until he stumbled home drunk from Swarla's wedding, pretending to be his wife.
Is Jodie Down But Not Out?
Of course not! But fans of the couple known as #Shavid can relax. In a recent chat with Metro, Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks revealed that Jodie will have a tough time splitting up the classic Cobbles couple. 'She is desperately trying to get what she feels is rightfully hers. She has a real soft spot for David, and she sees this life that Shona built, and she thinks, why couldn't that be me? That should be my life. She could have had a normal kind of life with a family and a dog,' Brooks explained. 'She's still definitely on that trajectory, but David and Shona are a really strong, united couple. They adore each other. They love each other. They've been through a lot.'
What's Next for Jodie's Evil Scheme?
After David spurned her advances and branded her a 'Glenn Close' (of Fatal Attraction fame), Jodie needs a new way to ruin Shona's family. Brooks teases that Jodie can cause tension through Harper, their premature daughter. 'We've obviously got Harper still in hospital. Ultimately, Harper will come home, and the stresses of family life will start to really take its toll. Whether Jodie is able to exploit those weaknesses within that relationship, whether she's able to tempt David over to the dark side, or because she wants to punish Shona for leaving her, she's certainly going to try and come between them.'
However, Brooks was quick to reassure fans that David and Shona won't split up anytime soon. 'As I say, David and Shona are a pretty solid couple. It's whether they can unite and see Jodie for who she is and what she is in time.'
Jodie's New Target: Daniel Osbourne
Now that Jodie has burned her bridges with the Platts, she needs a new sucker to con. Enter Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard). The tortured headmaster of Weatherfield High is still reeling from the discovery that his girlfriend Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) was a child predator who groomed a pupil and used him as a cover. When Daniel finds Jodie in his flat next week after she is kicked out by the Platts, the bunny-boiling baddie tries to manipulate him into letting her stay.
Will Daniel fall for it? It certainly seems so. Brooks explains how Daniel fits into Jodie's story: 'Jodie's story will dovetail off into Daniel's story. An unlikely little friendship will be formed, which I don't think many people see coming, but it's a really different insight into what makes them both tick. For the first time, Daniel is able to be truthful about how he feels. And similarly, Jodie is able to be quite truthful with Daniel, because he's in a dark place. There's some interesting dynamics between them.'
Could this be the start of a seriously toxic romance? Fans are already dubbing it #Dodie!
