Emile Heskey has urged Liverpool to ‘definitely consider’ selling Cody Gakpo if a ‘serious offer’ is made for the forward this summer, according to the former Reds striker speaking to 10bet.
Gakpo's inconsistent form at Anfield
Gakpo, 27, joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for £35m and scored seven goals with two assists in his first 21 Premier League appearances. His most productive season came under Arne Slot, netting ten times in 35 games as Liverpool won a record-equaling 20th league title. However, last term he managed only seven Premier League goals as the Reds’ title defence faltered, leading to Slot’s dismissal.
Interest from Tottenham and Bayern Munich
Tottenham have been heavily linked with the Netherlands international, while Bayern Munich have also shown interest. Gakpo confirmed last September: ‘From what I understand, they did come, but they ended up buying Luis Diaz.’ He signed a contract extension last summer running through to 2030.
Heskey said: ‘I would consider selling Cody if a decent offer was on the table. When you’re coming in as a new manager, you have to cold-headedly look at your assets. He is an asset who holds significant market value that you could cash in on to fund your own vision.’
Potential transfer fee and profit
The BBC reports that an offer in excess of £60m would be required for Liverpool to consider a deal. If sold, Liverpool would make a tidy profit on the £35m signing. Heskey added: ‘He has had a decent enough World Cup in terms of scoring and creating chances for Holland, which keeps his profile high. But at club level for Liverpool, it hasn’t consistently looked great for him. So yes, you’d definitely have to consider a serious offer.’
