Germany began their World Cup 2026 campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Curacao 8-0 in their Group A opener at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The hosts were in complete control from the first whistle, with Thomas Muller opening the scoring in the 12th minute after a slick passing move.
First-Half Dominance
Muller's goal set the tone for a one-sided affair. Kai Havertz doubled the lead in the 25th minute with a composed finish, and Serge Gnabry made it 3-0 just before half-time with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. Curacao, making their World Cup debut, struggled to contain Germany's relentless attacks.
Second-Half Onslaught
The second half saw no let-up from the German side. Joshua Kimmich added a fourth from a free-kick in the 52nd minute, and substitute Niclas Fullkrug scored twice in quick succession, in the 65th and 70th minutes. Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala completed the rout with goals in the 78th and 84th minutes respectively.
The win puts Germany top of Group A, with their next match against Saudi Arabia on June 18. Curacao will look to regroup when they face Mexico on the same day.
