Gary Lineker has expressed a 'sneaky feeling' that Arsenal will secure both the Premier League and Champions League titles this season. The former England striker shared his prediction on The Rest Is Football podcast, highlighting Arsenal's resilience and form.
Arsenal's Recent Form
After a brief dip in the Premier League, Arsenal regained momentum following Manchester City's defeat to Everton, putting Mikel Arteta's side back in control. The Gunners face relegation-threatened West Ham on Sunday, while City host Brentford a day earlier, aiming to keep their double hopes alive after winning the Carabao Cup against Arsenal in March.
Champions League Success
Arsenal secured their spot in the Champions League final after Bukayo Saka's decisive goal against Atletico Madrid at the Emirates. They will face Paris Saint-Germain, the holders, at Budapest's Puskas Arena on May 30. PSG advanced by defeating Bayern Munich, setting up a clash of contrasting styles. Arsenal remain unbeaten in the tournament, conceding the fewest goals and keeping the most clean sheets.
Lineker's Analysis
Lineker described the final as a 'fascinating game,' acknowledging PSG as favourites with a 60-40 advantage. However, he added, 'Finals are often dogged affairs, and I've just got this sneaky feeling that Arsenal are going to do this double.' He praised Arsenal's defensive solidity and highlighted performances from Viktor Gyokeres, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice, and Ben White in the semi-final second leg.
On Gyokeres, Lineker noted his reinvigorated display, saying, 'He was offering himself all night, and they looked for him early.' He commended Lewis-Skelly for his forward-thinking play and Rice for his incredible athleticism. White also earned praise for his 'terrific' performance.
PSG's Adaptability
Lineker also lauded PSG manager Luis Enrique for transforming the team into a versatile unit capable of defending leads. 'He can do everything. He gets the best out of his players,' Lineker said, but emphasized that Arsenal are 'tough to score against.'
The final promises to be a compelling encounter between two well-matched sides, with Arsenal aiming for a historic double and PSG seeking to retain their title.
