Nottingham Forest have rejected a second enormous bid from Manchester City for midfielder Elliot Anderson, with the Premier League champions upping their offer to £106 million plus add-ons. The add-ons would take the total package to over £120 million, but Forest are holding out for more money up front, according to The Athletic.
Forest demand British transfer record
The Tricky Trees are determined not to sell the 23-year-old for anything less than a British transfer record fee. Liverpool set that benchmark last summer when they paid £125 million to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Forest want a guaranteed amount exceeding that figure for their star midfielder.
It would represent an enormous profit on the £35 million Forest paid Newcastle for Anderson in 2024. The England international's profile has skyrocketed over the past two seasons, making him one of the most sought-after players in the league.
Manchester United also interested
Manchester City are not alone in their pursuit of Anderson. Manchester United are also keen to sign him this summer, though it seems unlikely they will outbid their local rivals in what would be an eye-wateringly expensive bidding war. While City have long been favorites to land Anderson, a report earlier this week suggested United chiefs fancied their chances. However, with Forest digging their heels in over a monumental fee, that optimism appears misplaced.
United have other midfield targets, having already agreed a deal for Atalanta's Ederson. They are also monitoring West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, Brighton's Carlos Baleba, Bournemouth's Alex Scott, and Lazio's Nigeria international Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
