Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has performed a dramatic U-turn on his Premier League title forecast, as the battle at the summit intensifies.
Arsenal's Slender Lead Under Pressure
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal will enter the New Year at the top of the Premier League, a position they have held for most of the season following a superb start. Their hard-fought victory over Brighton ensured they retained pole position, despite grappling with significant injuries to key players throughout their squad.

"I said [Arsenal would finish] first before a ball was kicked, but if I was a betting man right now I'm going City," Ferdinand admitted. "I want Arsenal to win it but the way things are going now, City might just win it now."
He pointed to City's rejuvenated form, following heavy spending and a run of eight straight wins, as a key factor in his revised prediction.
The Defining Challenge for Arteta's Gunners
Ferdinand identified Arsenal's upcoming fixtures and their record against lesser teams as the critical test of their championship credentials. January presents a tough schedule with matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
The pundit argued that Arsenal must now show a ruthless edge they have previously lacked. "You have to bully the teams near the bottom or middle part of the table and just be relentless," he stated.
He suggested that past failures to secure wins against such opposition at crucial moments have ultimately cost them, and that this is the pattern they must break to finally end their title drought, which stretches back to 2004.
The outcome of Villa's trip to the Emirates could have immediate consequences. Should Villa avoid defeat, Manchester City would have the opportunity to leapfrog to the top when they face Sunderland on New Year's Day.
