Doctor Caitlin Todd, portrayed by Caroline Harker, is ready to leave Emmerdale, but whether she will destroy Jacob Gallagher and Sarah Sugden's world before she goes remains uncertain. The vile surgeon recently assisted Charity Dingle during labour, delivering a baby girl as part of a surrogacy agreement for Sarah. However, it was revealed last year that the baby is not biologically Sarah and Jacob's. After a one-night stand with Ross Barton, Charity became pregnant with his child and has been hiding the truth.
Doctor Todd discovered the lie after noticing that baby Leyla's blood group does not match Jacob's. She used this knowledge to blackmail Charity into convincing Jacob to drop a HR complaint against her. Following her father's death, Caitlin inherited her family home and needed money for renovations, as early retirement left her short. Spotting Charity at the bar, she demanded £10,000 or she would reveal the secret.
Charity could only raise half the amount, leading to a tense confrontation where she threatened Caitlin to leave or face consequences. At Tug Ghyll, Doctor Todd told Vanessa Woodfield that she would leave the village tomorrow and end their romance. However, future spoilers reveal that Doctor Todd is not leaving just yet. She will make a new demand, forcing Charity to consider selling her shares of the Woolpack to keep the surgeon quiet.
Actress Emma Atkins explained: "She's like, 'Why?' Charity's not willing to divulge. She's like, 'You don't need to know.' Kim is suspicious and asks why anyone would sell their share of the village's hub. Charity just suggests she wants less responsibility, but the audience knows the real reason. She puts on a facade, telling Kim she's amazing and can run the place, but inside she's raging. She will do whatever it takes to keep the secret hidden."
If Charity sells, her heart will be broken, but she has no choice. Her determination to hide the truth about baby Leyla drives her actions, even if it means losing the Woolpack.
