In a significant development for both Manchester United and the Danish national team, Denmark manager Brian Riemer has provided an optimistic update on Patrick Dorgu's injury status, suggesting the young star could return ahead of schedule.
Dorgu's Injury and Recovery Progress
The 21-year-old Manchester United winger suffered a hamstring injury during the Premier League victory over Arsenal last month, a match in which he had scored. This setback came after a standout performance against Manchester City, where Dorgu had also found the net, showcasing impressive form in an advanced role under interim manager Michael Carrick.
Initially, the injury was feared to be serious enough to sideline Dorgu for at least two months, dealing a blow to his momentum. However, Riemer's recent comments indicate a more positive outlook.
Riemer's Encouraging Comments
Speaking to ViaPlay, Riemer acknowledged that Dorgu is currently listed as injured by Manchester United until April but revealed the player's determination to recover in time for Denmark's crucial World Cup qualifying play-offs.
'Right now he is reported injured by Manchester United, and he is until April. I know that Patrick has a dream to be ready,' Riemer stated. 'I think his biggest motivation right now, when he is running around in that training room, is that he wants to beat the crap out of us all and then be ready for that game.'
He further emphasized his support for Dorgu's ambitions, adding: 'I will only help him keep that dream alive as long as the opportunity exists.'
Carrick's Initial Assessment and United's Situation
In January, Carrick had expressed concern over the injury's severity, noting: 'Pat, unfortunately, he’s going to be out for a period of time. We’re still working through how long that’s going to be. We’ll have to see, [it’s] disappointing, he’s had such a big couple of weeks, Pat.'
Carrick explained that the club initially hoped it was minor cramp but later assessed it as more serious, though the exact timeline remained uncertain.
Despite Dorgu's absence, Manchester United have maintained good form, with Matheus Cunha stepping up effectively in the left-wing position. The team is also nearing the return of other injured players, including Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount, who could feature against Crystal Palace this weekend, while Matthijs de Ligt is expected back later in March.
Denmark's World Cup Qualifying Fixtures
Denmark faces North Macedonia on March 26 in Copenhagen, followed by a decisive match against either the Republic of Ireland or the Czech Republic for a spot in the upcoming World Cup. Dorgu's potential involvement could provide a significant boost to their campaign.
This update offers hope for Manchester United fans and Danish supporters alike, as Dorgu's early return would bolster both club and country during critical phases of their respective seasons.
