Day two of the County Championship brought a mix of brilliant batting and frustrating rain interruptions. At Headingley, Yorkshire captain Jonny Bairstow and Adam Lyth continued their dominant partnership, both scoring centuries to put Yorkshire in a commanding position against Surrey. Bairstow's first century as captain delighted the home crowd, while Lyth also reached three figures, adding an unbeaten 241-run stand.

Yorkshire resumed on 362-4 and quickly added to their total. Bairstow and Lyth looked untroubled, with Bairstow smashing a six into the Western Terrace. However, Surrey's Matthew Fisher struck back, dismissing Joe Root for 44 and Harry Brook cheaply. At lunch, Yorkshire were 486 all out, with Fisher taking the final wicket. Surrey's openers, Rory Burns and Dom Sibley, faced a tricky period before rain forced an early tea, with Surrey at 17-0.

At Taunton, Somerset continued to dominate Sussex, reaching 394-5. James Rew, fresh from England selection, scored 86, supported by Tom Lammonby and Tom Abell with seventies. At Edgbaston, Glamorgan were bowled out for 360, with Olly Hannon-Dalby taking a five-wicket haul. Warwickshire reached 105-4 before rain stopped play. At Chelmsford, Essex struggled against Leicestershire, slumping to 98-4 after Ben Mike took two wickets. Nottinghamshire reached 124-3 in reply to Hampshire's 214.
Division Two Highlights
At Lord's, Derbyshire's Ben Aitchison scored his maiden first-class hundred, sharing a big partnership with Wayne Madsen, who also reached three figures. Derbyshire reached 368-8, leading by 191. At Beckenham, Kent declared on 523-9, with Ben Dawkins making 181 not out and Sam Northeast 141. Durham replied with 103-4. At Bristol, Northamptonshire were 85-4 in reply to Gloucestershire's 154. At Southport, no play was possible due to rain, with Lancashire 28-0.
Rain affected several matches, including at Headingley, Taunton, Edgbaston, and Southport, leaving groundsmen busy. Despite the interruptions, the day provided plenty of action, with several players reaching personal milestones.
