Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has admitted she is 'still in shock' following the revelation that Sarah Platt is Theo Silverton's killer. The actress, who plays Maria Connor, spoke about the dramatic twist that aired on Monday, June 22, ending weeks of speculation.
Flashback reveals truth
During Monday's episode, a flashback showed Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) confronting Theo on scaffolding. After he threatened her, she struck him with a metal bar, causing him to fall to his death. In panic, she called Gary Windass (Mikey North) for help, and the pair have been keeping the secret ever since. Their suspicious behavior led Maria to suspect an affair, culminating in a tense dinner party scene where she confronted them.
Samia reacts to the twist
'I am still in shock. I watched it with my family because I'd not seen it. Obviously I was there, so I kind of knew what was happening, but it was nice to see it all edited and put together,' Samia told Digital Spy. 'It was so hard because everyone over the last couple of months has been having their own guesses who the killer is and not that many people were expecting it to be Sarah so it was quite nice it gave people a shock.'
She added that more twists are coming: 'I think you are going to see quite a bumpy ride for Gary and Maria.'
What's next for Gary and Maria?
Gary has decided not to come clean to Maria about his involvement, leaving their marriage in jeopardy. Meanwhile, DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) is convinced Gary killed Theo and is determined to find proof. The storyline promises further upheaval for the characters.
