Coronation Street Star Jonathan Howard Denies Quitting as Carl Webster
Coronation Street Star Denies Quitting Reports

Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard has dismissed speculation that he is leaving the soap, despite earlier comments that suggested his time on the show might be ending. The actor, who plays manipulative mechanic Carl Webster, has committed to staying on the cobbles for the foreseeable future.

Carl Webster's Troubled History

Since arriving on Coronation Street, Carl has been a whirlwind of chaos. He destroyed his brother Kevin's marriage by seducing Abi Webster, conducted an affair with James Bailey, and involved teenagers Brody Michaelis and Dylan Wilson in a car-theft ring. His actions led to a hit-and-run on Tyrone Dobbs and a drunk-driving crash that killed Billy Mayhew. He also manipulated his mother Debbie's dementia to avoid responsibility for the accident, letting her go to prison for his crime.

Earlier Exit Hints

Jonathan Howard previously appeared on This Morning and spoke with a sense of finality, saying, 'I've had a really good time here. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll see what happens in the future.' This led fans to believe he was leaving. However, he later posted a selfie from the Coronation Street set, sparking confusion. He admitted his social media posts were strategic to mislead fans about the murder mystery storyline.

Commitment to the Soap

In a recent interview with The Mirror, Howard clarified his plans. 'Originally, when I joined, it was like 'okay, I'll do 12 months,' he said. But being part of Debbie's dementia storyline has changed his mind. 'I think we'd be missing out on something for Carl to leave before he's come to terms with his mum's dementia diagnosis. I would at least like to stay until we see what happens to Debbie, then we'll see what happens after that.'

Howard's commitment ensures that viewers will see Carl navigate his relationship with Debbie and face the consequences of his actions. Fans can expect more drama from one of Weatherfield's most compelling villains.
