Coronation Street Confirms Jodie's Fate After Kidnapping Fears

Note: The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Coronation Street dated May 6, which has not yet aired on ITV1 but is available on ITVX.

Jodie Ramsey's (Olivia Frances-Brown) fate has been confirmed following fears that she had been kidnapped. Last week, a series of flashback episodes aired prior to the revelation of the dead body discovered by Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin). During the episode focusing on Jodie, her plan to destroy her sister Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) life took a darker turn as her past began to catch up with her.

A young teenager named Olivia, whom Jodie used to care for, visited the cobbles. When confronted by the girl, Jodie attempted to throw her out of the house. She was then confronted by Shona and told her sister what may have been either the truth or a pack of lies about stealing a hard drive from her dangerous ex, Olivia's father, as an insurance policy to prevent him from killing her. Horrified that her sister had brought danger to her doorstep, Shona told Jodie to get as far away from Coronation Street as possible for her own sake as much as her family's.

In the same episode, Jodie managed to trick David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) into nearly cheating on Shona with her. After sending a text to David from Shona's phone, Jodie dressed in lingerie and waited for a drunk David to return. Fortunately, things did not go too far as David quickly realized what was happening. He confessed this to Shona yesterday, but the fact that her sister attempted to steal her husband is not bothering her as much as it should, because Shona remains deeply worried about where Jodie has gone.

Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) told her that the police are treating Jodie's disappearance as a kidnapping and are investigating whether the thugs who were in Weatherfield last week are involved. In today's installment, a worried Shona left Jodie another voicemail, telling her sister that what happened between her and David doesn't matter and that all she cares about is whether she is okay.

In the precinct, Jodie was sitting on the swings listening to Shona's message. She smiled and saved the voicemail, suggesting that Jodie might use this to her advantage in the near future. She then put on her headphones and started listening to music, happy that Shona and David are at odds as a result of her actions.

Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks recently revealed what lies ahead for Jodie over the next few weeks, confirming that she still believes she is entitled to the life Shona is living. "She is desperately trying to get what she feels is rightfully hers. She has a real soft spot for David, and she sees this life that Shona built, and she thinks, why couldn't that be?" Brooks said. "That could be me, that should be my life. She could have had a normal kind of life with a family and a dog named after the father in the family. She's still definitely kind of on that trajectory, but David and Shona are a really strong, united couple. They adore each other. They love each other. They've been through a lot."

Brooks added: "We've obviously still got Harper in hospital. Ultimately, Harper will come home and the stresses of family life will start to really take its toll. Whether Jodie is able to exploit those weaknesses within that relationship, whether she's able to kind of tempt David over to the dark side, or because she wants to punish Shona for leaving her, she's certainly going to try and come between them. But as I say, David and Shona are a pretty solid couple. It's whether they can unite and see Jodie for who she is and what she is in time."
