Didi Hamann has urged Chelsea to sign Liverpool legend Andy Robertson on a free transfer, claiming the Blues are 'crying out' for experience. Chelsea have endured a dismal run, losing six consecutive Premier League matches and exiting the Champions League, leading to the sacking of Liam Rosenior after just 106 days in charge.
Chaotic Transfer Strategy Blamed
The club's struggles have been linked to a transfer strategy focused on signing young players since the 2022 takeover. Hamann believes this approach lacks balance and that experienced heads are needed to guide the squad through tough times.
Robertson's Credentials
Andy Robertson, 32, will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season after nine trophy-laden years. The Scotland international won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and three domestic cups at Anfield, cementing his status as one of Liverpool's greatest defenders.
'I think Chelsea need experience,' Hamann told BetKing. 'If you've got good young players, you need experienced players to bring them on. Sometimes when things go badly, you need players who can calm young players down. A player like Andy Robertson, they should take him in a heartbeat.'
Current Form and Remaining Fixtures
Chelsea's 3-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest left them ninth in the Premier League, closer to the drop zone than third-placed Manchester United. The Blues, led by interim boss Calum McFarlane, face Liverpool, Tottenham, and Sunderland in their final league games.
However, Chelsea can still salvage their season by winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 16. McFarlane's side defeated Leeds United in the semi-final, while City beat Southampton.
Hamann added: 'With one or two more experienced players, they've got to give themselves a chance. I don't think the way the team is put together, they give themselves a chance. Andy Robertson, I'd take him at Chelsea in a heartbeat if he was interested.'
