Chelsea are reportedly ready to sell Alejandro Garnacho this summer transfer window after the former Manchester United star failed to show for pre-season training. The winger, who joined Chelsea for £40 million less than a year ago, was absent when new manager Xabi Alonso took charge of his first training session on Friday.
Garnacho's absence raises questions
Every player who did not travel to the 2026 World Cup reported to Cobham, including England star Cole Palmer, but Garnacho was conspicuous by his absence. The 22-year-old was not included in Argentina's squad following a disappointing first season in west London. It is not clear why he was missing, with the Daily Mail reporting that Chelsea did not comment when asked about his non-appearance. Unless it is injury-related, it is very likely that Garnacho is not in Alonso's plans going forward.
Chelsea's asking price
Roma are the only club known to have concrete interest in the player. Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea want €50 million (£42.6 million) to sell him to a foreign club, but would demand £45 million if a Premier League club wanted to sign him. Earlier in June, Chelsea were open to offers but not actively seeking to sell, ruling out any loan deal. Now, the club appears to be stepping up efforts to offload him permanently.
Garnacho's struggles at Chelsea
After being exiled from Manchester United by Ruben Amorim, Garnacho failed to live up to the hype in west London, recording just one goal and four assists in 24 Premier League appearances. Last summer, he described his move to Chelsea as 'incredible' but is now said to be open to an exit. He struggled for minutes toward the end of last season, starting just one of Chelsea's last 12 games as they slumped to a 10th place finish and lost the FA Cup final to Manchester City.
Other Chelsea departures
So far this summer, Chelsea have already sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid and Tyrique George to Everton, while Andrey Santos is set to join Manchester United for £50 million.
