Britney Spears, 44, was seen standing through the sunroof of a black Mercedes SUV as it traveled along the 101 Freeway near Studio City on Thursday, startling nearby drivers. The singer stretched both arms across the roof and threw her head back into the wind, a pose reminiscent of her music videos, while the vehicle continued moving.
Witnesses describe the incident
Witnesses estimated Spears remained standing through the sunroof for about two minutes before the SUV pulled off at a nearby petrol station. There, she appeared relaxed, laughing and chatting with the male driver, who has recently been linked to her as a potential new boyfriend.
Source downplays the stunt
According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail, the moment was less dramatic than it seemed. “Britney just went through the sunroof for a quick moment,” the insider said. “She wanted to see what the traffic was about up ahead because the cars came to a stop. She wanted to see how long they would be delayed. She used to do this all the time as a kid growing up in the South. She loves having the warm wind blow through her hair in the summer. She’s having a fun summer and is in a good place. If it’s illegal to put your head through a sunroof, she doesn’t know it. She didn’t mean to do anything bad.”
Recent legal troubles
The stunt raises concerns given Spears’ recent DUI case. In March, she was arrested and later pleaded no contest to a reduced reckless driving offense, known in California as a “wet reckless.” She avoided jail but received 12 months’ probation, a fine, and mandatory completion of a DUI education program. The plea requires her not to drive with alcohol or drugs in her system and allows police to request roadside testing.
Other recent incidents
Days after her court case concluded, Spears made headlines in Sherman Oaks. CCTV captured her stopping at a liquor store before heading to a restaurant, where witnesses alleged she barked, smoked near the entrance, and carried a knife. Staff clarified the knife was provided with her burger, and her representative accused critics of blowing the evening “completely out of proportion,” stating she was dining with her assistant and bodyguard. She continues to post dance videos and candid content on Instagram.
