Chelsea Rule Out Four Bosses in Manager Hunt, Including Fabregas
Chelsea rule out four names in new manager search

Chelsea have swiftly begun their hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Enzo Maresca, but have already ruled out a quartet of potential candidates, including former fan favourite Cesc Fabregas.

Maresca's Departure Triggers Search

The Blues confirmed Maresca's exit on New Year's Day, 1 January 2026, following a dismal run of just one victory in seven Premier League matches. A club statement thanked the Italian for securing the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup during his 18-month tenure, but stated a change was needed to salvage their season and chase Champions League qualification.

Four Names Immediately Dismissed

Speculation immediately swirled around potential successors, but Chelsea's shortlist appears narrow. According to reports, the club are not considering former midfielder Cesc Fabregas for the vacancy.

The ex-Spain international, who won multiple trophies at Stamford Bridge, is building his managerial career at Italian side Como. Despite rejecting the Inter Milan job earlier in the year, he is not in the frame for a Chelsea return at this time.

Furthermore, the club are unlikely to move for Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner or Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola, whose contracts expire soon. Former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is also considered a non-starter. Another name linked, Porto's Francesco Farioli, is said to have no interest in a Premier League move currently.

Rosenior Emerges as Frontrunner

The current favourite to take the helm at Stamford Bridge is Liam Rosenior. The 41-year-old is the head coach at Strasbourg, a club also owned by Chelsea's parent company, BlueCo. This existing connection makes him a strong and logical contender as Chelsea look to stabilise their campaign.

The search for Maresca's permanent replacement is now underway, with the club under pressure to make an appointment that can revive their faltering season.
