Chelsea have made a definitive decision regarding the future of forward Joao Pedro, rejecting any potential transfer this summer despite interest from Barcelona, according to reports.
Barcelona's search for a striker
Barcelona have identified Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez as their primary attacking target for the upcoming transfer window, with Robert Lewandowski's contract set to expire at the end of the season. However, Atletico hold a strong negotiating position as Alvarez still has four years remaining on his contract, which includes a €500 million (£431m) release clause.
As a result, Barcelona are exploring alternative options, and Joao Pedro has emerged as a key target. According to ESPN Brasil, the Catalan club has already initiated informal contacts with the Brazil international's representatives ahead of the summer window. The move has been approved by both Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco.
Chelsea's firm stance
Despite Barcelona's advances, Chelsea have communicated through third parties that they will not entertain a transfer for Joao Pedro this summer. The club is acutely aware of the difficulties in finding a suitable replacement for the 24-year-old, who has been instrumental in their campaign.
Joao Pedro joined Chelsea from Brighton in a £60m deal last year and has enjoyed an impressive debut season at Stamford Bridge, scoring 19 goals in all competitions. The Brazilian also has the opportunity to secure a second trophy with Chelsea, having already won the World Club Cup, as the team prepares to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 16.
Barcelona's interest in Joao Pedro underscores their need for a reliable goalscorer, but Chelsea's resolve appears unshakeable. The London club values the forward highly and is unwilling to part ways with him, especially with the summer transfer window approaching.
