Charlton Athletic have moved to strengthen their defensive options with the signing of former Champions League defender Jérôme Roussillon on a free transfer.
Experienced Defender Joins Addicks
The 32-year-old left-back has put pen to paper on a short-term contract at The Valley, bringing a wealth of top-level experience to Nathan Jones's squad. Roussillon arrives with a notable career history, having previously played for Montpellier, VfL Wolfsburg, and most recently Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
Despite making only seven league appearances for Union Berlin last season, the defender brings valuable European experience to Charlton, having featured in both the Champions League and Europa League during his career. His signing comes at a crucial time for the Addicks, who have suffered back-to-back defeats against Southampton and Stoke City.
Immediate Availability Against Coventry
Roussillon has completed all necessary paperwork and is eligible for selection for this weekend's challenging trip to face league leaders Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena. The timing provides a significant boost for manager Nathan Jones, who has been dealing with limited options in defence.
The French-born defender, who initially represented France at youth level before switching allegiance to Guadeloupe, expressed his excitement about the move. "I'm really happy to be here and be part of the team," Roussillon told the club's official website. "I'm excited to get started and can't wait to play in front of our supporters."
Manager Nathan Jones highlighted the strategic importance of the signing, stating: "We're delighted to be able to bring in someone with Jérôme's experience. We've obviously been light in that area with the injury to Josh Edwards and it's the only position that we haven't really got cover on, so we're pleased to bring Jérôme in to give us more competition and quality in that area."
Millwall Face FA Discrimination Charge
In other South London football news, Millwall have been charged by the Football Association following an alleged incident during their Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in September.
The charge relates to events in the 80th minute of the match, which Millwall eventually lost on penalties after Ryan Leonard's 91st-minute equaliser had levelled the score at 1-1. The FA alleges that Millwall failed to ensure their supporters refrained from improper, offensive, and/or abusive behaviour of a discriminatory nature, including references to disability.
Millwall have strongly disputed the allegations and released a statement confirming their intention to submit a robust response to the charge by the December 4 deadline provided by the governing body.
The FA's specific charge states that the club failed to prevent supporters from "conducting themselves in a discriminatory manner which included a reference – whether express or implied – to disability." This development comes as Millwall also contend with injury concerns ahead of their upcoming fixtures against Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton.
