Casemiro: Man Utd Have 'Big Problem' Over Carrick's Future

Casemiro believes Manchester United have a 'big problem' with their decision over Michael Carrick's future as manager. United appointed Carrick on an interim basis in January following Ruben Amorim's exit, and the 44-year-old has guided the club back into the Champions League with three Premier League games remaining. Carrick has lost just two of his 14 games in charge of United, a run that has included impressive wins over Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

United's Managerial Dilemma

United are considering their options with Andoni Iraola, who is leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season, regarded as one of the strongest alternative candidates. But Casemiro believes Carrick deserves to stay on as United manager.

'The club has a big problem in that aspect, right?' Casemiro said in an interview with TNT Sports Brasil when asked about Carrick's future. 'Because we know he came in as an interim manager, he came, he delivered, he had difficult games, he did very well, he's doing very well, he's a guy who knows the club, he knows what Manchester United is all about, he has class, he has the attitude of Manchester United, he's an incredible person, and he deserves it, he deserves to stay.'

'If I were to give my opinion, he's a guy who deserves it. Knowing him day to day, you already say, 'this guy deserves it'. He has class, he lives and breathes the club, he knows what the club is all about. So, for me, this guy has to stay at the club for more years because he deserves it, he really deserves the job.'

Carrick's Calm Response

Speaking at his press conference on Thursday, Carrick insisted that he is 'calm' over his future at United and believes he has not taken a short-term approach with his decisions during his time at Old Trafford.

'We've got eyes on finishing the season strongly as well,' Carrick said. 'So, I understand the question, I understand the timing of it, but from my point of view, right at this stage, it's just putting the boys in a place to finish the season strongly, and then, as I've said all along, and I'm calm about it, it'll get sorted out when it's going to get sorted out, some of it's out of my hands, so we'll see what happens.'

'I think I've said from the start, though, that I've never approached a day here in terms of any short-term decisions. Whether that's different from the outlook of others, I don't know, but from mine and certainly the staff, I think we've definitely made decisions for the longer term for the group and individually as players and how we treat them and try to help develop them, the squad. So, I don't think, really, it would change the approach for how I've tried to go about things. Again, I understand that it might be for other people looking towards me maybe or towards us, whether that's players, whether that's supporters, whether that's you lot sitting here. I don't know how that changes, but maybe we'll get to see, I don't know. But certainly, from my point of view, I think I've done it, gone about it, in a way that I feel is the right way to do it.'
