James Bond favourite Callum Turner has finally addressed the swirling rumours about him potentially taking over the iconic 007 role, after months of speculation. The actor, who recently married pop star Dua Lipa in a lavish ceremony in Palermo, Italy, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the constant questions surrounding his casting.
Turner's Reaction to Bond Rumours
When asked about the possibility of becoming the next James Bond, Turner remained evasive but offered some insight. 'I know as much as you do – really, I know as much as you do,' he said, skirting the question. Pressed further on whether he would accept the role if offered, the 36-year-old actor laughed and looked at his shoes, adding, 'I am not going to comment on that.'
Despite his reluctance to confirm or deny, Turner did share his amusement at the situation. 'I will tell you what's so funny about the Bond thing: Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven't spoken to for 10 years – and you know nothing! It is such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing. I just find it quite amusing.'
George Clooney's Endorsement
While Turner remains tight-lipped, Hollywood legend George Clooney has thrown his support behind the actor. Clooney, who directed Turner in the 2023 drama The Boys In The Boat, called him a 'great' choice for Bond. 'He is tall and handsome and charming and British, so he is the perfect guy to do it,' Clooney said.
The Future of the Bond Franchise
Turner is among a long list of actors rumoured for the role, including Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson. However, Amazon, which now holds creative control after longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson stepped down, has remained silent. The next film, written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and directed by Denis Villeneuve, is not expected until at least 2028.
A source told The Sun: 'Bond won't be back until 2028. The production mindset's gone from "Let's hurry this through" to "Make sure we get this right". Denis wanted a long break after Dune 3 and has some broad ideas on the script. Steven will get on with drafts, before they map out the final version. That'll take at least the whole summer.'
Idris Elba Weighs In
Meanwhile, long-time fan favourite Sir Idris Elba recently dismissed rumours he would play Bond as 'not realistic'. The 53-year-old actor said the character was 'written how he was written for a reason' and felt that not all audiences would accept a black Bond.
As fans eagerly await the next 007 instalment, it seems the wait will continue – with weddings and blockbuster commitments keeping the franchise on hold.
