Out of all the Emmerdale residents, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was always going to be the one to potentially jeopardise the revenge plan against Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). You would think he might have learned by now, but Cain still believes barging in with his size 11s is the best approach whenever someone is going up against his family.
Cain now knows that Joe Tate was the reason Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) went to prison. On top of this, he has a big reason to want Joe dead because he cut down Holly Barton’s tree, and he generally just thinks the village would be a better place without him. He has been told to keep his fists to himself because Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) and Moira are busy plotting revenge far better than death. Their words, not mine.
Dawn and Moira believe that taking everything Joe has and leaving him with nothing is the best option. They have already made headway due to Joe happily giving Dawn some money to buy Take a Vow, and a load more cash in some trust funds for Clemmie, Lucas, Evan and their new baby.
They are making progress and it is going well – so of course Cain has to launch in and potentially ruin it. In future episodes, Sam Dingle (James Hooton) voices his anger that Joe has not been dealt with. He may get his wish, as Cain later clashes with Joe in the pub. When Moira arrives, she shoots Cain a warning with her eyes and he backs down. Despite this, Moira and Dawn begin to wonder if things are getting out of hand.
Returning to the Dingles, Cain’s anger bubbles to the surface, and no one really knows how long he can keep a lid on it around Joe. Moira decides to take action by telling Dawn to take the kids and leg it, but she does not want to. Dawn tells Moira that she wants to win on her terms.
Dawn’s naivety towards battling a Tate is highlighted later in the week though, as she fails to pick up on Joe being a bit too excited about their future together. He waxes lyrical about the upcoming wedding and how they have always wanted a big, happy family – and Dawn cannot see that it is all an act.
As she heads upstairs to help Clemmie with her homework, it becomes clear that Joe – and also Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) – both know what she is up to.
After urging Joe to take action against Dawn, Graham returns to Home Farm and finds Dawn unconscious at the bottom of the stairs. This certainly is not what he was thinking.
