Bournemouth secured a place in the Europa League for the first time in their history after a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest on the final day of the Premier League season. Andoni Iraola's side finished sixth with a record 57 points, extending their unbeaten run to 18 games.
Match Summary
Morgan Gibbs-White put Forest ahead with a free-kick, but Marcus Tavernier equalised in the second half after a surging run and cross from Adrien Truffert. The result meant Bournemouth missed out on a Champions League spot despite Brighton's loss to Manchester United, as Aston Villa's win at Manchester City and Liverpool's draw with Brentford kept them in fifth.
Tavernier's Equaliser
Truffert, who has been one of the signings of the season since his £11m move from Rennes, burst past Jair Cunha on the byline and pulled the ball back for Tavernier to fire home first-time past Matz Sels.
Bournemouth had chances to win, with substitute Ben Gannon-Doak missing a clear opportunity and Eli Junior Kroupi forcing a save from Sels. Gibbs-White went close for Forest at the other end.
European Qualification
The draw means Bournemouth will play in the Europa League next season, while Brighton enter the Conference League. Crystal Palace could also join the Europa League if they win the Conference League final.
Iraola, who will leave the club in July, said: "I think it's the most incredible achievement. I enjoyed every second with the fans and the players. There is some champagne now in the changing room."
Gibbs-White Reacts
Gibbs-White, who was left out of England's squad despite 19 Premier League goal contributions, said: "I know I have done more than enough. I just got on the wrong side of someone's opinion. I'm glad the season is behind us now."
Elliot Anderson, another Forest player linked with a move to Manchester City, received a standing ovation as he left the pitch.
Iraola's Future
Iraola, who is Crystal Palace's No 1 target and also interesting Bayer Leverkusen, said: "I will take my time to make a decision. I want to continue as a head coach. That's probably one of the reasons why I'm leaving, because it's been so nice and before maybe regretting it next year, I wanted to finish it here."
