Police are searching for a man dressed as a lobster who punched a darts fan unconscious outside the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace in north London. The victim, a man in his 20s, was attacked on December 13 last year after leaving the venue around 4:30pm.
Attack Details
According to the Metropolitan Police, the victim had been watching the third day of the tournament when he left Alexandra Palace. He was surrounded by a group of men dressed as lobsters, and an argument broke out. Security separated the group, but the victim encountered them again shortly after while walking along the concourse. One of the men punched him, knocking him unconscious.
The victim received hospital treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, from which he is still suffering, the Met said.
Police Appeal
On Monday, police released a CCTV image of a man they want to question. Detective Constable Lizzie Coster, leading the investigation, said: 'This assault occurred outside at a major sporting event, and the suspect was wearing a distinctive costume. We are releasing a CCTV image of the suspect in the hope that it will jog the memory of attendees, or anyone else who was in the area at the time.' She added: 'Our thoughts are with the victim in this case, and we hope the best for his recovery.'
World Darts Championship Context
The 2026 World Darts Championship ran from December 2025 to January 2026. On day three, two-time champion Gary Anderson beat Adam Hunt 3-2 in a tense first-round match. Darts fans are known for attending in fancy dress, a tradition believed to have started as a way to get noticed by TV cameras. Luke Littler won the championship for the second consecutive year, defeating Gian van Veen 7-1 in the final on January 3.
