Sir David Beckham has praised a "great performance" from the England football team following their dominant World Cup triumph over Croatia. The London-born icon is renowned for his legendary two-decade career in the sport, during which he became the first English player to clinch league titles in four different countries: England, Spain, the United States and France.
Social Media Praise
The former footballer, 51, took to Instagram today (Thursday, June 18) to celebrate the "togetherness" of the England squad following the match, which saw them claim a 4-2 victory over Croatia. Sir David shared a photograph of the team after the final whistle and wrote: "Great performance from the lads." The former Manchester United star also posted a picture of team captain Harry Kane celebrating during the game, describing him as "the captain leading by example", accompanied by red and white heart emojis.
Jude Bellingham, who netted the third goal of the match, was also among those to receive a nod of appreciation from the former England captain. Sir David praised a "brilliant performance from Jude", alongside an image of the England midfielder. He also shared a photograph of footballers Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford, applauding the "togetherness of the team", adding: "Marcus making a difference."
Beckham's Legacy
Sir David has played in three separate World Cups, and was recently honoured with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in recognition of his role in raising the profile of football in America and his enduring influence on the sport. He was also awarded a knighthood last year in recognition of his contributions to sport and charity.
Family Dispute
The former football icon is married to Spice Girl Lady Victoria Beckham, and the couple share four children – Romeo, Cruz, Harper and their eldest son Brooklyn, with whom they are currently embroiled in a family dispute. The rift emerged after Brooklyn accused his parents, famously known as Posh and Becks, of "trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped" in a social media post in January. He further alleged that his wife, Nicola, had been "disrespected" by his family.
Brooklyn has neither made a public appearance alongside his parents nor acknowledged them on social media since his statement, in which he also claimed his parents 'manipulate stories in the press' about their family and place 'Brand Beckham' above all else. Lady Beckham broke her silence on the dispute in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, stating that she and Sir David "love our children so much" and have "always tried to be the best parents".
