Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has decided he wants to join Liverpool this summer, even though Arsenal had been leading the race for his signature, according to French outlet Le10Sport.
Barcola's PSG career and World Cup form
The 23-year-old France international has spent three successful seasons at PSG, winning two Champions League trophies and three Ligue 1 titles since joining from Lyon in 2023. He made 49 appearances in all competitions last season but was an unused substitute in PSG's Champions League final victory over Arsenal. That disappointment reportedly convinced him to consider leaving the French champions.
Barcola is currently at the World Cup with France, where he scored in the opening match against Senegal and helped his side thrash Iraq in the second group game. France have already secured their place in the knockout stages ahead of their final group match against Norway on Friday.
Liverpool's interest and Arsenal's pursuit
Liverpool had considered a move for Barcola 12 months ago and have revived their interest this summer as they look to replace Mohamed Salah, who left Anfield after a long and successful spell. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a known admirer of Barcola and expressed interest before the Champions League final, with reports last week suggesting the Gunners were set to make a bid.
According to Le10Sport, Barcola is 'thrilled' at the prospect of a move to Merseyside and 'excited' by Liverpool's project and the chance to play in the Premier League. PSG have not ruled out a summer sale and are already scouting replacements, including RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi, and West Ham's Crysencio Summerville.
Gallas: Barcola would have huge impact at either club
Former France international William Gallas told talkSPORT: 'With his ability, I think he could go to Liverpool, Arsenal or somewhere else in the Premier League. That won't be a problem. But he needs to find the right club that suits his style and gives him the opportunity to show his quality. It depends on how Liverpool is going to play and what their style will be. We know Arsenal's style already, but for Liverpool, it might be different under a new manager. But Bradley Barcola would have a huge impact at both.'
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make an official bid, as they have already signed Victor Munoz from Osasuna and are also leading contenders for Diomande. New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola is looking to bolster his attacking options after a miserable title defence last season.
