Everton midfielder Aurora Galli has opened up about the anterior cruciate ligament injury she suffered in September 2024, revealing she had a premonition of the incident in a dream. Speaking to Sophie Downey, Galli recounted her journey back to fitness and the disappointment of missing out on Italy's squad for the 2025 European Championship.
A Premonition of Injury
Galli described how she dreamt about her ACL injury before it happened. 'I dreamt about my ACL,' she said, recalling the eerie premonition. The injury occurred during training, sidelining her for a significant portion of the season.
Swift Return to Action
Determined to return quickly, Galli aimed to be back on the pitch within six months. However, her recovery took a bit longer. 'I think it was like seven-and-a-half,' she remembers, 'I pushed it.' She made her comeback for Everton on the final day of the 2024-25 season, a testament to her hard work and resilience.
Italy Squad Snub
Despite her successful return, Galli was not named in Andrea Soncin's final squad for the 2025 European Championship. The decision was a blow, but she remained supportive of her teammates. She was invited to meet up with the Italy squad as they reached a historic semi-final, an experience she cherished.
Galli's story highlights the mental and physical challenges athletes face when overcoming serious injuries, and her determination to return to the sport she loves.
