Tottenham sign Martin Dubravka on free transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the free transfer of veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, as manager Roberto De Zerbi continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new season. The 60-cap Slovakia international joins after a year with Burnley, where he made 35 Premier League appearances despite the club's relegation.

Dubravka's Career and Recent Form

Dubravka, who made his senior debut 19 years ago, is best known for his eight-year stint at Newcastle United, where he played 179 times in all competitions and won the Carabao Cup in 2025. He also earned a winner's medal with Manchester United in the 2023 Carabao Cup during a loan spell, making two appearances. Despite Burnley's relegation, Dubravka demonstrated he remains capable of performing at the top level.

Player and Manager Reactions

Dubravka expressed his excitement about the move: 'It's an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family. I'm looking forward to it. Everything moved pretty quickly and I'm really happy to be here. I've loved watching Roberto's teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here. Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and I can't wait to meet everyone and get started.'

De Zerbi commented: 'I am very happy because Martin is a goalkeeper with big experience and a strong mentality. He has very important qualities for me and will bring balance, leadership and competitiveness to our dressing room.'

Transfer Activity and Goalkeeping Situation

Spurs have been active in the transfer market, securing free transfers for Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth and Andy Robertson from Liverpool, in addition to the £52m signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. Dubravka's arrival adds depth to a goalkeeping department that saw Antonin Kinsky replace Guglielmo Vicario as first choice late last season. Kinsky appears set to continue in that role for now, but the long-term plan remains uncertain.
